Editorial visual cover for Understanding Google INP (Interaction to Next Paint): The New Speed Metric — MeraDomain Insights

Google officially replaced First Input Delay (FID) with Interaction to Next Paint (INP) to measure how quickly pages visually update when users click buttons, open menus, or type in forms.

1. What INP Actually Measures

INP evaluates every user interaction throughout the entire session duration—not just the first tap. An INP under 200 milliseconds is classified as 'Good', while anything over 500ms incurs a search ranking penalty.

2. Eliminating Long JavaScript Tasks

Break monolithic JavaScript loops into async micro-tasks using setTimeout(..., 0) or scheduler.yield(), allowing the browser engine to paint visual updates instantly.
