Transferring your domain name between registrars should never result in broken websites, dropped emails, or search ranking drops.

Phase 1: Pre-Transfer Preparation

  • Verify 60-Day Lock: ICANN regulations mandate that domains registered or previously transferred within 60 days cannot be moved.
  • Update Registrant Email: Ensure your administrative contact email is active to receive confirmation links.
  • Disable Registrar Lock: Turn off the "Domain Theft Protection" or "Transfer Lock" switch inside your existing registrar control panel.

Phase 2: Obtaining the EPP / Authorization Code

Request the Auth-Info / EPP code from your current registrar. This alphanumeric secret key authorizes the incoming registrar to request the transfer.

Phase 3: Preserving DNS & Nameserver Mappings

To avoid website downtime, do not change your nameservers during the active transfer window. Keep DNS pointed to your web host or third-party DNS provider (like Cloudflare) throughout the 5–7 day migration window.
